Now FOUR pineapples have voted no!!!! That's what you get for asking a stupid question in the first place!!!! Anyone who likes rallying would love to see him back - as well as Cathal Curley, Billy Coleman, Russell Brooks, Jimmy McRae, Ari Vatanen, Stig Blomquist, etc etc etc. Forget the past - let Finlay and the rest of them retire in peace and let's look forward to new drivers, nagivators and cars. We can't go back so let's go forward willingly instead of having to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

almost agree Ben.

But, and I am not slagging or anything like that, but many of the drivers now at the top level are there because of cheque books and not talent.

What we really need is to get some incredibly talented but less financially aware people to the top level. Take McShea - a world champ from Ireland, who can only afford to rally a grp n machine now and again. Compare to the likes of Boland - talented but not in the same league - who is out every turn about.

Talented drivers could get to the top a lot easier in by gone days - money was nowhere near as big an obstacle. Talent took ye to the top, not the machinery.

I re-iterate, I am not slagging off any driver, just trying to make a point.

STE. Kenny seemed to be on to something. Cast your mind back to Galway a fair few years back, Meagher, in a MK2, beating Mark Lovell in the Cosworth. A real case of talent and no big cheque book

i agree with JJ on this, Frank Meagher showed up a lot of top men and he was in a home built self prepared mk2 escort and he showed up Mark Lovell in a factory prepared sierra cosworth

I agree with saying that a lot of talented drivers havent been able to make it to the top due to financial constraints but Finlay isn't one of them. He has the money but just not the interest. Which is a shame cos hes a genius.
