Alrighty :)

When doing a snag list what are the major things to look out for ?? Apart from the obvious cracks etc, what other things are quite common on houses these days ??

Is it a good idea to do it yourself or are you better off paying someone to do it ?? How much would it cost to get it done ??

Sorry about all the questions but I am new to all of this :)

You must know some builder locally who would take a look around for you, probably cost 3 or 4 hundred euros to get it done officially if its southern Ireland, you could phone RTE and get DUSTIN or DUNCAN STEWART to do a report on it

You would be better of paying someone to do it. If you know any Building Surveyors or Architects or any body that may be a foreman for a building contractor (not the one that built the house) they may do it for you.
Some things to look out for are:
- Drainage flowing ok
- Insulation in the attic (proper thickness) and covering the whole area
- Are windows/doors/window cills left clean
- All lighting and sockets working
- Are all windows/doors eary to open and close.
-Insure all water pipes are connected especially the overflows
etc,etc..............

RS, I am in Meath and the house will be in a town not so far from Dublin :) There is a delay on them at the moment (what's new?) but I will contact you when I know more :)

A cross dressing snag dude sounds WAY too bizarre !!!!

Snag list? Sure a monkey (with very basic training) could compile one of those.

Well that's why I charge what I charge

Anyone who choses to go the cheaper route and pay peanuts gets that,

It's funny you should mention that, as I'm currently in the process of drawing-up a business plan, under the directions of your wee nemesis.

Jimmy, I am a wee bit of a perfectionist. If something is not done right, get back and do it again until it IS right !!! A tradesmans nightmare, and I am not moving into any house until it is 100% right.

Market is too competive to be overcharging-people are not stupid unless they use someone cheaper-you go cheap it costs you in the end

Too true Rory, pay peanuts, get monkeys :) Personally with anything, i'd rather spend the money and get the job done right rather than half measures.
