Gareth roughly 3s a km slower than Solberg after SS1 (+1m05s) but quicker than local man Ricardo Trivino in a 307 WRC.

Good start for him and hopefully if there are a few dropouts over the weekend, he may just sneak a drivers' championship point or tow.

The Focus is a ded reliable car so if he can keep her going could do very well. The best result for an Irish driver in the WRC was Billy Coleman-8th on the Acropolis in 78 and possibly 5th on the Tour De Corse in 86-not sure about that one.

I was close enough-one year and one place difference-the point remains the same.

I just checked wrc.com. Mac Hale is 7th, tied with Henning Solberg, 2min, 41sec behind M. Wilson and 5min 37sec behind the leader, Petter Solberg.

The news is that Gronholm is out, so there may be a few extra Msport mechanics available to service the Irish charge:laugh:

True, but that was long before the World Rally Championship, as we know it today, began in 1979.

I recon Machale should be given a run in M-Sport's Secondary WRC Team to prove himself!! Himself and Matthew Wilson would be a great pairing and a great advert for Ireland and Britains rallying community!!

Where are you lot getting the more detailed stage info from? WRC.COM don't seem to have updated from yesterday and the official site www.rallymexico.com uses WRC.COM.

Noel, who is patiently waiting for the snooker to end....

Thanks RF, just presumed that as they didn't list a winner that there was no stage detail.
Rgds

Noel, who is annoyed that Eurosport has cancelled the 5.00 show. Now waiting for the 11.30 edition.
