Aye Im not for one second saying Pattersons would start innuendo- but it doesnt read right, words like moral victor and whiter than white have me puzzeled?
Spoke to a competitor who done the rally, its alleged that at post event scrutiny an irregularity was found with Carlsons Dump valve by the scrutineers and they rubber stamped it as ok so the right for any other competitor to appeal the components of the car was not open to them as the scrutineers had already passed it as kosher.
I think I have it correct there, but my own personal interpretation of the situation be it right or wrong is "come do our rally Mr Carlson, oh dear you are outside the rules, but your ok anyway cuz its you, thanks bye"

If they ran a rally in Killnascully it wouldnt end up so stupid!
I'm led to believe that something under the bonnet was mounted incorrectly. It was done in error and was in no way going to enhance the performance of the car, so no further action was taken.
your half right, something was mounted incorrectly, the dump valve(this is where you were right), it was the wrong way around. this is never done in error, it is a big performance gain (this is where you were incorrect), think about it. with it plumbed the right way the valve opens and lets boost pressure out. with it the wrong way around (illegal) it never opens and the boost stays on longer and theres more of it. evos have been doing this for years until it was seen by the scruitineers and now seems to very rare. i doubt any of the evo drivers in the country have this done, it might even be the case where the newer evos dont need them turned around anymore, but i'm no evo expert.

Back in 2002, three drivers (Trevor Cathers, Bob Fowden and Dickie Curran) were disqualified from the Cork '20' and Roy White was also disqualified from the West 2002. All four drivers were excluded for dump valve irregularities.

i think the point you are making is that carlsson should have been exculded too? like those lads rightfully were? or are you being more subtle than i am able for ?
I would say that if the letter of the law was applied and that if there was irregularities then yes Carlsson should have been excluded but that would have been extremely embarassing for the organisers (not that I'm condoning it).
more embarassing than blatant breaking of the rules while trying to get a WRC round to the country, I can hardly see when having them follow the letter of the law would be an embarassment?
sure when you pay a fella that much to come and do the rally it would look bad if you kicked him in the stones and told him f@@k off not to mention the bad pr the event would get
