Has any body tried just useing the cosworth escort shell route save a lot of welding plus good access to big brakes and suspension from grp a cars dont know what axle u would use to get cwp correct

escort cosworth shell isnt a bad route...

but would you because to use a focus with escort RS running gear ( cut it all up to save costs ??)

i thought that the cosworth route would have been lighter ever try push a gartrac g3 about the street? and what about all the additional weight from fabricating the rwd conversion maybe a starlets the car to go for.

BTTT.

ello, just looking around the ol' internet about gartrac escorts mk3 and came across this,i have been into rallying and rallycross for years and i remember a certain norwegian rallycrosser called martin schanche who had the very first escort gartrac xtrac zakspeed mark 3.

i know a bloke who knows personally barry squibb who bought that gartrac car and was sponsored by scalextric, anyway barry sold it to mike endean who was mr xtrac and he hill climbs it.

i also knew of a yellow escort g3 that didn't run the alloy arches that was campainged by 2 birds from the north west of england back in the very early 90's,pat jeffs and carol pearl, they were always quick and would beat blokes in so called quick escorts and even cosworths etc, iirc pat's navigator was high up in r-e-d the cosworth specialists and built the car using all genuine gartrac components bar the arches and sexy rear spoiler.
another car i remember was the other gwyndaf evans who had a alloy arched datsun 240 rs powered gartrac that did tarmac events in ireland and the motoring news tarmac championship.
my mate who knows barry squibb had 2 gartrac escorts, one was on the front cover of fast ford magazine and was azure blue with a v6 capri motor. he bought the car through gartrac and the xr/rs centre who sponsored john welch who had a gartrac mk3 too and john welch painted the gartrac road cars.

i found this video of the car that started it all,its martin schanche in his 1983 50 grand motor car

were;)nt they a fine looking car

I built one in 1994 well I nearly finished it, the shell was finished. It was lighter than a mark2 and It was a Rally Fab kit, I knew Lol well who designed it and he helped me with fabrication and fitted a weld in cage for me. I sold it with all the fabrication done to Gareth LLoyd to fund the purchase of a house. It was very different to a mark2 in set-up front crossmember moved forwards, engine rearwards also the top mounts were turned through about 60 degrees so that the engine bay was wider. Mine also had link boxes which were wider than normal to take Serria TCA bushes, so I would not have to replace the mark2 ones every 2 events. The link boxes were also further apart from the centre line of the car than a mark2, which was surposed to give better stability.
I though Pat Jeffs was a genisiss and it was Richie Pearl her navs husband that had a G3 which he sold to Des Wyn, it had a BDA ZF and fully floater but i'm not totally sure.

Hi there, we broke up the G3 that Richie Healey had..........still have the log book and tax book if any one is interested!
Regards, DMRR

With regards buying the bubble arches they can still be bought new from gartrach my uncle has 2 genuine shells and a very close copy all of which are being rebuilt at the minute. He also in the very near future will be selling fibreglass copies of the genuine arches that were recently purchased from gartrach.
