Mike Bird does not sponsor the event, and I would be surprised if George catches Mike. He is one quick driver, he does not get out often but he was a top MK11 boy in his day and he can peddle that lancer, of course he can also bin it too. And George has done bugger all rallying in the last year or so at least not in Ireland.
So my point been, what the bugger has the seeding got to do with anyone on this forum, it is what it is no point talking about it , if a driver does not like where he is seeded let him look after himself. It will even itself out over the weekend you could easily argue and move around most of the top 40.

We are on a discussion forum here clan, and on this thread people are discussing the seeding. We air our views, if I think car 20 should be back at 100 or car 100 should be up at 20, then i'll write it in cause it's my view! How can you say ders no point discussing something on a discussion forum! And you know, it has got something to do with us, because we are the people that follow the rally, that buy the programs, that stay in the hotels, etc, etc. It might be sweet fuck all to do with us, but it's something!

Well HBX, it it makes you happy so be it, I guess if you asked any rally organiser about spectators the first thing he would say is I could do without them. More hassle then they are worth and they cost them money. Everyone has an opinion on who should be where in the seeding was it right Gareth was seeded before Austin in the Monte or Eamon who has finished in the top 16 before, I don't know.
Alls I know is the seeding took a long time to organise, and was based on a number of issues and it cannot always be right, but it will work itself out. I myself do not agree with some of positions but after talking to the guys they have a damn good reason why they put people where they are.

Thats because he is a co driver!

Its not Patrick Elliott that competes in the Dunlop championship.

What? Without the spectators, the organisers wouldn't have ANY money to run the event, as nobody in their right mind would throw them sponsorship money without potential publicity. And following on from that, there would be very few competitors, for the very same sponsorship reason.

Just out of curiosity, how do you form that opinion? In my experience spectators add very little to the coffers of clubs running an event.

Jimmy, it is a throw away comment I made, "they are a necessary evil" I think is the term used to describe them. Money is made up from Sponsorhip of the rally, average 20k first year, 15k second 10k third, entry fees say 131 cars at 600 = 78K -10k programmes at average E10=100k, average Cost of programmes runs around 50% of sale price. No Spectators no need for Programmes, no need for as many Marshalls, no need for Guards = serious cost saving International will cost approx 80k maybe more, Figures above are estimated based on a few years ago.
Organisers can run the rally on the entry and major sponsor alone, the rest is re-invested in new equipment, and used in a fighting fund. Sponsors of top cars and Rally Sponsor look for TV time, and coloumn inches.

Anything that is spent on the event by spectators usually doesn't go to the club with the possible exception of the programme and that has printing costs....the pubs, hotels, b&bs & shops etc are the ones who make all the money from an event....

Exactly Kevin, the Programme sales is usually used to fund the clean up and repair of damage caused by specatators to peoples property and land.

You mention TV exposure and column inches: who's going to watch the TV show and read the magazine/newspaper article? Why yes, the humble spectator. Without the fans (i.e. the spectators), it would be a very lonely sport. So for organisers to discount the importance of the spectators is extremely ignorant, and incomprehensively arrogant.

If you read my post a second time, you may find the answers to your question.

What I'm saying is that a sponsor is depending on exposure to the general public to justify pumping money into the sponsorship of an event. Without spectators, exposure of the potential sponsoring company is greatly reduced, therefore the benefits of their event sponsorship are slim.

It's no wonder that people are highlighting the PR problems with rallying in Ireland with such an attitude from organisers. If the public are such a problem, then perhaps they should cease promoting international events and concentrate on secretive activities such as cock (male domestic fowl) fighting, bare-knuckle fighting and the like.
