Delecour is some character alright. Some memorable moments he's provided to me were:-

1) Leading the Monte in a works Sierra Sapphire on his WRC debut before crashing out on the last stage (God, I'm old!)
2) Accusing another driver of illegal recce and trying to hit him. The other driver being Panizzi - his Peugeot team-mate! - and the location for the dispute being in front of the world's media during lunch.
3) While all other drivers chose to fly to Corsica, Francois went by Jetski.
4) Removing the engine from a Mitsubishi. Using a tree.

Quite frankly, he was lucky to survive the last shunt and perhaps he's chosen to retire to the warm French countryside with his family. I am sure he made enough money when he was driving and his unique personality, while great to watch from outside, must have made him a nightmare to employ.

Favorite memory was of him in the focus when I think he rolled during the stage and shattered the windscreen, proceeded to kick out the windscreen, strap on some goggles and continue at full speed. Bloke was proper headcase and usually could be counted on to provide some from of entertainment during a rally. Todays WRC saddly lacks anybody with any personality whatsoever, the most you seem to get is Marcus maybe slagging off the 307 after another failure. You get the impression the rest have a book of pre-approved quotes supplied by the team boss. :barf:

Yeah saw that in Autosport. Was a great pilot though. Most recent memory was him eating the head off his co- driver on the RAC (I refuse to call it anything else!) for a wrong call. I read that he drove one of Martin Schanche`s RS200s in a rallycross in France in 92 and finished 3rd in the final. That says it all I think

Dont forget the day he was doing a demonstration for the press in the new sierra cosworth and it ground to a hault. He told the press " i not having big surprise that car stop as it is a Ford" Ford Europe must have loved that:laugh::laugh:

My fav Delecour moment when he was quoted as saying that Mc Rae drove like a homosexual!!

He was some boy, would say anything, remember the fight he started with Panizzi in service over illegal recceeing
