Rumour has it that The Cork Forestry Rally is being axed from the Forestry Championship for the coming year. It seems amazing that the only event on the calandar which is oversubscribed, and which also happens to be a 2 day event and better value for money is being refused a date. Seems that Birr are the beneficiaries of this extraordinary decision.:dunno:

Jaysus- I would doubt it? Its a great rally, I wasnt at Birr but I doubt its better than Cork?
Seems its true alright. You'd easily know that the fellas making the decisions never sat in a Rally Car.
birr was good but no where near the cork forestry. it would be a big same if this is true
Couldnt be true!!! the best rally in the championship???? it has the best stages, its very well run,it has the best timing system and if thats not enough its a 2 day!!!!!!!!!!! who is the brains behind this one??!!
sure around here its prob some dope with idle gossip
no this is true. cork forestry is NOT a round of the 2006 national forestry championship.
and what member of the rallies commintee told you
the delegates from cork motor club who attended the forestry sub commitee meeting in cashel last night where the decision was made
so on what grounds was the descission made on
this is irish rallying all over pick the best event and let the offical's do their best to ruin it
Cork Motor Club have 2 events on the same weekend an autocross and the rally, they asked for a date change with Birr, were refused so they are going to run the autocross instead....................or thats the story?

Cant imagine it being true?
CMC tried to get a date change due to an coillte haveing trouble with the date of the rally. Didnt attend the club meeting this week so I dont know the in's and out's out it but it looks like noone was able to accomodate the datre change hence theres no other solution but to pull the rally.
Aye wasnt there something about birds nesting at last years event? I remember now someone saying it would have to change for 06
Trying to remember, could possibly be the harrier hen. Poor form that another solution was'nt able to be found.
That s some stones typical s all i can say !

Sure is there not a solution to that problem on the way, this bird flu will take care of the harrier hens and i dont think the lemsip will be of much use to them !!!!!!!!!!
The main problem with forest rallies is the hen harrier, a rare bird that Duchas is trying to nest in some forest complexes. As a result, in some forest complexes, there is no rallying allowed from May to Mid August.

The CMC tried to solve the problem, but in the end, lost out.

The IFA is also annoyed with the Her Harrier, as the bird stops the farmers from using their land for some of the year. As you know, farmers are good at lobbying, and they may have more luck sorting the hen harrier than Motorsport

That's total rubbish! So you reckon that Cork Motor Club applied for an Autocross and a 2 day forest rally on the same weekend!!!......... And then opted to run the autocross?????
Whoever gave you THAT story would need to go back to gossip school!

I wouldn't panic just yet.CMC are a very resilient club and WILL run a forestry rally in 2006 or die trying.
This is being worked on by the club since the decision was made by the sub-committee on Tuesday night and hopefully there will be a positive outcome.
So watch this space.

Nice Explanation Ian, but not quite true the Hen Harrier only uses conifer plantations in the winter. It does like young conifer plantations but only because these are usually sown on moorland with deep heather which is what the hen harrier likes to nest on. The Hen Harrier has caused some farmers to be upset because of its feeding/nesting habits, but this is in the Limerick area.
Coillte will take the money from rally organisers any time, as they are now not answerable to the goverment and have to make money on there own.
