Hello

I want to give out-

But I want to do so annomolussly (in case I dont get an entry next year or someother punishment)

Carlow Rally 2006 was poor in my humble opinion.

I was a competitor running in the mid field, and the rally was bad in many many ways (not all bad some good but the glaring bad bits made the good bits not matter so much)

Let me start at the start.

Stages...waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy to fast!!

Stage 1??? WTF was all that about?? what driving was in there? It was dangerous! How in the hell did M.I safety officer not put in some chicanes!!!

And that stupid doctor on ss1 opening our door as we were on the line to check our belts!!! Grrrr
I know safety needs to be checked but come on!!! We are not fools our belts are on!! and at least the scrutineers do it a bit down the rd!!! not on the line!!

Stage 2 for fuck sake what was the forestry bit about!! Im no forestry man, if I was I would do Cork 2 day, hear its a great rally with smooother stages than ss2 in Carlow- must have been torture for the MK2's, only time I have ever been glad to see a stage blocked was ss2 as it preserved our wee car- (not that I would have wanted anyone hurt in blocking it, but can you see what I mean- I didnt want to rally that forestry bit up past the mast)

The time card remote control gate buzzer thing..........wtf???

Time keepers handing it in the window with 5 seconds to go and flustering the co driver and annoying me distracting the show- Im sure the timekeepers did their best but it must be an akward system_ how ever do the WRC boys manage it- or would they be bothered their arse with it- what was wrong with old fashioned paper time cards???

And on that note the ones we got yesterday?? How crappy and confusing were they with the small akward boxes and no clear format???
You wouldnt get that on the Cork 20!!!

And bogey times????????????

What were they where were they??? What answer did you get from the COC or Secretary when you asked them about them? I overheard one front car navvy trying to ask about why bogey times werent published and what were they........I was surprised at the answer he got!!!
Not for me to repeat it as I was listening in on a private conversation.

Did anyone actually measure the stages...........was the miles in the roadbook correct:whistle:

And what was all the crap with breifing moved to the night before? I wanted to be out sorting tyres and gettin an early nite but I rushed into briefing to find the usual repeated hum drum (I know safety is an issue but I learned nothing new its common sense now) and then after all the talk that there would be a sign in sheet for briefing so you couldnt miss it then imagine no sheet!!!! I could have stayed in the digs!!

Service was stupid where the clubmen were beat up into, up a rough silly hill, fair play it was off the rd and safer than a hard shoulder.

Then the dickhead in the car park next door (the field- good idea in fairness) untill a dickhead in a tractor started showing off doing donuts and made a big soft mess ofg the gate way- he ripped the bumper off a mates mates van in a bulldozer attempt to tow him out of the big mucky hole he had made- bull in a china shop I was told.

Maybe im gettin old but I thouht stage 1 and 5 were dangerous and the forest stage no2/4 was just a piss take!!!

then there was the dickheads in helicopters taking off right in front of rally cars coming into junctions and following them for a few seconds!!! Grrr (not the clubs fault I suppose)

I never was a disapointed with a rally ever!

Did they have Dunlop on the cover of the programme this yr???

Anyway no point in telling the club or then I just wont get an entry ever again so I hoped I could sound off here and blow off steam, thaks

Did anyone elase think the stages were crazy or am I just getting old??

THanks

Would never complain about a stage being to quick personnally love the mental quick stuff . Rough stages is another kettle of fish though. Nothing worse than getting the fillings shaken out of your head with really rough section when your car is set rock hard.:headache:

Did you speak to the c o c about your concerns,an approachable person i thought? the new timing will take a little getting used too but so did the stage start lighting system. I cant comment on the service area because we didnt get to experience it in the rallycar but it isnt easy to get somewhere big enough to take over 150 service crews. Maybe you are getting old but you shouldnt be afraid to ring the club or talk to a councillor and get it all out of your system:smoke:

CARLOW

i was along with maurice moffett and we won the two wheel drives, but they gave us not the correct stage time because of the accident. they gave us a time of 8.36 instead of 8.04 on stage 6. on stage 8 we done a time of 7.53 which was quicker than any other two wheel drive. they seeded us behind the mk2,s and we caught cars all day. they done their best to make sure we did not beat the mk2 escort challenge.
dont get me wrong but mk2 challenge is a good thing but our aim in rallies is try and win the two wheel drives.
we worked hard all weekend to achieve this and they stole our result,so it just goes to show what carlow club is like.

that stage two was a disgrace, how competetors got through that stage without recking their car is a miracle,it was more like a night navigation.

service was a balls.
timekeepers didnt know what was happening half the time, but it was not their fault.

overall it was very badly organised.

i thought stage 6 +7 were fantastic stages though.

dont worry mate your not on your own their were plenty of complaints.
one overall winner said to me they were not stages.

A pity some of the cops didnt bring one of them fancy speed guns out to a stage and see what sort of speeds were being hit, ss1 in particular, has to be better than doin mrs o brien at 53 in a 50 zone. Mk 2 running order may need some attention for future events as they were holding up cars a lot yesterday

interesting:whistle:

wrong times (ie time on card different to that on clock) go hand in hand with questionable bogey times..............not saying thats what you fell victim to though, Id sya you were just shafted!

Stage 1, tooooooo quick altogether, what good is running a stage where some competitors beat the bogey times which are suppossed to be set at 70mph I think ?? At the end of the stage after drivers going as hard as they can only to be told that their stage times dont stand because the bogey time was beaten. Any1 can drive in a straight line........
As a competitor who has started at both ends of the field i can understand where the lads are coming from when they catch cars, seeding is always a hard one to call.
As for the section at the mast, words just dont describe it.

A service area off the road is much safer than the hard shoulder or a closed back road that is only the width of two cars, did any1 see how much space was taken up by the big lorries?? (which were all on a hard standing), and it was muddy and sticky up the back, even walking was though in some parts.

Time cards and those 'RX10's or whatever they are called, hardship is all, no record of times when the timecards were collected at the passage controls, anyways, WRC's still use the good old fashioned pen and paper.

All the problems that seen to be aired the rally still ran prity close to the published times for the stages.

Was on junction 5 i think it was on stage one (90 Left) and was good enough viewing.
Was looking for a decent spot on stage 5 and went to 4 different corners and they were all poor. But just getting back to the condition of some roads, while i was checking out stage 5, towards the end of the stage there is a hairpin left. I was amazed at how bad the condition of the road was leading into the hairpin. The road no wider than a rallycar, loose stones on the surface, and water running down both sides of it!
Was at bit disappointed with the rally from a spectator point of view.

Stage 1 bogey times.

I just had a look at the stage times. What was the story with Stage 1?

The top 13 competitors had a time of 6:40. I presume this was a bogey time!

Stage 3 (stage 1 repeated)

The top 14 had a time of 6:40. Again, I presume this was a bogey time!

I’ve heard of maybe the top one or two cars beating the bogey time at the odd rally, but the top 14 cars!!
