Hello
I want to give out-
But I want to do so annomolussly (in case I dont get an entry next year or someother punishment)
Carlow Rally 2006 was poor in my humble opinion.
I was a competitor running in the mid field, and the rally was bad in many many ways (not all bad some good but the glaring bad bits made the good bits not matter so much)
Let me start at the start.
Stages...waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy to fast!!
Stage 1??? WTF was all that about?? what driving was in there? It was dangerous! How in the hell did M.I safety officer not put in some chicanes!!!
And that stupid doctor on ss1 opening our door as we were on the line to check our belts!!! Grrrr
I know safety needs to be checked but come on!!! We are not fools our belts are on!! and at least the scrutineers do it a bit down the rd!!! not on the line!!
Stage 2 for fuck sake what was the forestry bit about!! Im no forestry man, if I was I would do Cork 2 day, hear its a great rally with smooother stages than ss2 in Carlow- must have been torture for the MK2's, only time I have ever been glad to see a stage blocked was ss2 as it preserved our wee car- (not that I would have wanted anyone hurt in blocking it, but can you see what I mean- I didnt want to rally that forestry bit up past the mast)
The time card remote control gate buzzer thing..........wtf???
Time keepers handing it in the window with 5 seconds to go and flustering the co driver and annoying me distracting the show- Im sure the timekeepers did their best but it must be an akward system_ how ever do the WRC boys manage it- or would they be bothered their arse with it- what was wrong with old fashioned paper time cards???
And on that note the ones we got yesterday?? How crappy and confusing were they with the small akward boxes and no clear format???
You wouldnt get that on the Cork 20!!!
And bogey times????????????
What were they where were they??? What answer did you get from the COC or Secretary when you asked them about them? I overheard one front car navvy trying to ask about why bogey times werent published and what were they........I was surprised at the answer he got!!!
Not for me to repeat it as I was listening in on a private conversation.
Did anyone actually measure the stages...........was the miles in the roadbook correct
And what was all the crap with breifing moved to the night before? I wanted to be out sorting tyres and gettin an early nite but I rushed into briefing to find the usual repeated hum drum (I know safety is an issue but I learned nothing new its common sense now) and then after all the talk that there would be a sign in sheet for briefing so you couldnt miss it then imagine no sheet!!!! I could have stayed in the digs!!
Service was stupid where the clubmen were beat up into, up a rough silly hill, fair play it was off the rd and safer than a hard shoulder.
Then the dickhead in the car park next door (the field- good idea in fairness) untill a dickhead in a tractor started showing off doing donuts and made a big soft mess ofg the gate way- he ripped the bumper off a mates mates van in a bulldozer attempt to tow him out of the big mucky hole he had made- bull in a china shop I was told.
Maybe im gettin old but I thouht stage 1 and 5 were dangerous and the forest stage no2/4 was just a piss take!!!
then there was the dickheads in helicopters taking off right in front of rally cars coming into junctions and following them for a few seconds!!! Grrr (not the clubs fault I suppose)
I never was a disapointed with a rally ever!
Did they have Dunlop on the cover of the programme this yr???
Anyway no point in telling the club or then I just wont get an entry ever again so I hoped I could sound off here and blow off steam, thaks
Did anyone elase think the stages were crazy or am I just getting old??
THanks
