Who should be placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd?

23 year old Ian Barrett from Maynooth, Co.Kildare.
27 year old Kevin Kelleher from Clonakilty, Co.Cork.
25 year old Gareth MacHale from Rathcoole, Co.Dublin.

What do the fans think?

Barrent and mchale dont need the money, im sure if kelleher had it he could go further
Do any of of the finalists really need the award???
its not like they are struggling to go rallying:mad:
pure farce me thinks.
i agree, Colin o toole would of made good use of it as would keith power and brian o mahony
where is Brian O'Mahoney ? I thought i read somewhere he was in the last 3, no ? He should have got in my opinion.
i said it weeks ago, wilson should of won this. he put in alot of effort this yearwith regards doing events + won the championship into the bargain but it was the high overall placings that were impressive. he was runner,up last year yet had better results this year + could'nt make the final 3:dunno: a very strange decision. and its not as if any of the top3 need the cash 2 go further in the sport. what i'd like 2 know is does results come into the final decision r is it just a case of impressing the commitee???
I say to make a further Muppet Mission out of it give it to Barrett,

but Kelliher is the quickest of the lot I would say.

Mc Hale has a WRC car under his arse and is already well know given the rallying Dynasty he comes from. He doesnt need this.

Kelliher maybe deserves it most as he is the quickest, in both Gp N and a MK2, (just like Billy Coleman himself)
Hope Kelliher wins it, he's the most deserving in my opinion........
Cant believe Wilson didn't make it!!
Hope kelleher gets it,nice guy, serious quick pilot....my only prob would be that hes a bit too fond of his escort, could go against him
Tropsrotoms right....they prob will give it to the shower kid
i think its so unfair that the fellas with good finance already behind them should get it!!! Its a waste!!! I Guarentee there wont be as many in for the award next year, its a load of bull!!!! Its who ya know not what ya know.!!! Id like to see the likes of Mc Hale/ Kellagher in a Civic,Proton or a 1300 nova and see what results they can pull out of it!!!!!!!! they wouldnt be half as good as what the boys drivin them are doin!! Thats just my opinion!!!
Hope Kelleher gets it... of all of them he probably needs the money least though , his family are well off property developers I think, Sure look at the cars he has, 2 evo's one for road and one for rallying and the mark 2 is costing a nice few pound.... hardly someone that's short of a few bob ;):laugh:

In the same breath, I would love to see any of the other lads, jump into a WRC and have a good go in the woods beating more seasoned Irish fortestry competitors. Or even go across to the UK and give the English WRC lads a good run for their money.

For people who reckon the award should go to someone who is already struggling for budget. How far do you think the prize fund in the Billy Coleman award will get someone who does not have a backer already ??
tihs award is not about the money 30k will do nothing to launch a career.
i have been thinkin about this and my opinion is changin a bit. i ask this if gareth was not from a wealthy back ground would his support go up. take the money out of the equation. who deserves this award on progress, ability and future prospects.

That is a very good point that is not grasped by most people. I think the current objective of the award is "help them (the winner) to achieve International success in the future" This objective won't be met by giving the award to an already struggling driver, hence a number of very good but relatively poorly funded drivers are unlikely to be considered.
do you have to show your bank balance at the interview or how do the rate how much money is behind you?? mite seem like a stupid question but its not
i think everyone prepares a budget for the next years planned rallying.......
The whole attitude towards sponsorship and PR in this country is wrong. The majority of drivers want other people to pay for their rallying but don't go about getting it in the right way. Therefore, most are left to financially struggle through their championships.

How is 30K going to help someone who is struggling already ?? Not very much being the answer. It may help in a years free rallying in the same car in the same championship. But the aim of the award should not be funding a years rallying for someone.

It should be the fact of who will market the award to the best ability and to the largest audience in the best possible way and who will represent the award to the highest standard. Who has the biggest ambition to get further and who has the cop on how to get there.

It's not too long ago that Kelleher was beating all comers in a 1600 MKII, to suggest that he did not serve his time successfully in lower powered cars is just not correct.
