If you stay in Birmingham city centre itself you can either get the train to Birmingham International Station and walk the 5 minutes to the NEC or pay £8-10 for a taxi.
Hotels in the city centre are cheaper as you have travelodges, Jurys Inn and places like that. Airport and NEC hotel are already booked up apparently. The price fot he hotel will depend how far in advance oyu book it, Jurys Inn do discounts if you book by a certain date
