summer date and make it a round of the ITC too so that we might get a decent local entry, base it in or around dublin, use baldonnell or the curragh or somewhere for service, with all the new motorways now most of the country is accessable in 60-90 minutes, have a day down around the south a day around the west and back around monaghan/cavan area on sunday, it would be powerful

Like rory said. Donegal and Killarney can run some of the best events of the year at a fraction of the costs of rally Ireland and they do it for a love of there sport not the bonus and wage packages the rallyvireland committee get. So why not have the rally in donegal and use Derry for a day

Or on the other hand have the stages around newry and Dundalk/Monaghan like the circuit had last year.

Why dont they do a voluntary money collection at the rally? no pressure on the fans just a donation if they want to see the rally back, a few euro wouldnt kill people. Better than buying tickets like other rallies & be corralled into pens at camera locations to look good for tv

While it would be great to see rally Ireland back the budget will be a major issue, the budget since the last will have to be cut while still making the event look good. Alot of underlining issues since the last rally will have to be resolved not swept under the carpet, i think they should look towards 2013/2014 rather than 2012 then maybe the money mite be there from backers as now the country has'nt a penny.

Latest report from Ocean FM radio.

"Fianna Fail's Marc Mac Sharry said he is confident that the Vice President of the FIA, the global governing body which controls motor sport will support any Irish bid for the event.

His comments come following a meeting between the two earlier this week where the Sligo Senator outlined the benefits of bringing the rally back to the North West."

Unlikely, maybe in a few years but with Brazil and perhaps North America and other locations coming on the calendar the chances are slim. Not sure there's an appetite for it from the two governments now, times have moved on especially with golf now being seen as a better investment by Stormont. If the IRC CoI becomes a regular spot we'll do ok.

No rally ireland for 2013,

News
8th May 2012
By Giles Wade

The calendar for next year’s World Rally Championship is being constructed in Paris this week, with the 2013 schedule under discussion at the World Rally Championship Commission.
There’s strong speculation that Brazil and South Africa could come in to replace Rally New Zealand and the Acropolis Rally from this year’s itinerary – with the FIA president Jean Todt pursuing his stated aim of a calendar including six rallies inside Europe and six rallies outside. That, the Frenchman says, is a World Rally Championship.
Early indications are that the 2013 calendar will come from this list (in no particular order):
Monte Carlo Rally
Rally Sweden
Rally Mexico
Rally Portugal
Rally Brazil*
Rally Argentina
Rally South Africa*
Rally Finland
Rally Germany
Rally Australia
Rally de France
Catalunya Rally
Rally d’Italia
Rally GB
Brazil and South Africa have to run candidate events and there are believed to be concerns over Rally d’Italia – with the FIA believed to be seeking further assurances of a shift back the mainland.
One of the crucial parts of the discussion will be whether there are 12 or 13 rounds of the 2013 World Rally Championship, with the manufacturers preferring less rallies and the FIA seeking a retention of the current number of 13. Four long-haul rallies (Mexico, Argentina, Australia and South Africa or Brazil) will be selected to run alongside eight or nine European events.
Rally New Zealand has been hit by renewed questions over the cost of getting to Auckland allied to the small car market and population base, while the Acropolis Rally poses a difficult moral question, run in a country which is suffering major economic difficulties.

No rally ireland for 2013,

Rally New Zealand has been hit by renewed questions over the cost of getting to Auckland allied to the small car market and population base, while the Acropolis Rally poses a difficult moral question, run in a country which is suffering major economic difficulties.
Is even the rally Ireland committee still together?
Ireland has both of these problems on the one Island, so cant see why they would bother to continue trying to get Rally Ireland running again.

Why would they bother about it anymore anyway? after watching the top IRC boys in action you get the same comitted driving without all the politics, cost and general ******** with the wrc brigade, the coverage that the wrc supplied was no better than what eurosport and the irc supplied so value for money a regular spot in the IRC series would be better suited to this country rather than breaking the bank to please jean todt every couple of years,
