The stages should all be online prior to rally week, same as on other WRC sites.

Got this mail from RI:

Hi Noel,

Yes this information will be on the RI website however not until a couple of weeks before the rally (health & safety reasons), if you look at the RI website go to spectators and rally guide 1 you will find more info there. My role is advertising sales for the programme; if I can be any help let me know.

If your that mad to see the exact stages lad and have a "spectating recce", go out and buy an os map of the sligo area, and plot the stage on it. ALl road closure orders must be made public 4 weeks prior to them being closed except in emergency, and RI has been known about for a while now. So just go on the County Council websites for the counties the rally takes in and you'll fund al the info you want. An example of the sligo stages taken off the road closure section of the web is

Someone with this, google earth, and some time on their hands could get nice hybrid satilite images for all to see.

In very limited circumstances. No parking will be allowed along the stage. Each stage will be 'policed' in the days before the event to ensure that vehicles are not parked on the stage or escape / access roads. In most instances specators will have to walk to the stages. The official press releases have mentioned walking several kms.

I was down at a marshall training day last sunday and the police have said that they need 3 meters clearance to get a fire engine into all houses in the areas of the stages so it looks like there will be no parking allowed on access roads. There will be signs up saying that they are tow away zone and any cars parked will be lifted and fined £105.

been over stage 2 and stage 3 about 3 weeks ago ,going to be a nightmare esp 2 ,if you have to park on the main road its at least 2 /3 mile walk.i am From the area and there is not a lot of parking anywhere on the stage .best place to park is gleann chapel {r284 }car park from here its about 2 mile to start of stage 2. the drumshambo stage has been divided into two, stage 9 bencroy and stage 10 drumshambo. a rough idea of stages can be worked out from any 2008 atlas. also only one road into shake down (I think} hope this helps

I see plenty of merit in reducing the amount of tape used. This theory of designated spectator area is the exact same as what it says in the Green book -" if it does Not say you can do it then you can not".
Likewise if it does NOT say you can stand or walk there then you can not.
Have many of you have spent time trying to unravel red tape from around a barbed wire fence or try to extricate tape from a Blackthorn or Whitethorn hedge row. Reducing the amount of tape also helps the carbon footprint.
I appreciate it will be a difficult learning process for some spectators but most are intellegent enough to embrace change.
After all it is a change to have RI here.

"We have also introduced a major environmental initiative to reduce the carbon footprint of the event and make significant moves towards environmental awareness and good practice in motorsport."
This quote is taken directly from Rally Ireland and has tape is produced from a fossile source the carbon footprint has to be affected.

That's gas , Thousands of motorists off to watch ninety cars use copious amounts of fuel , burn enough rubber to keep a condom factory going for a year , use enough chip bags and burger wrappers to wallpaper every McDonalds in Ireland, and they are worried about the carbon footprint of a bit of tape ffs :eek:

Tape + Helicopters = Disaster
48 choppers registered to attend RI
Considering the safety delegate travels by chopper,i dont think that any amount of tape or lack of tape as the case may be will sway his decision in cancelling a stage if he thinks spectators are in a prohibited/dangerous area.

i really hope the organisers show some common sense and dont try and make everyone stand together at the same spots, it should have the atmosphere of an irish rally, we werent really that restricted where we could stand at the candidate events, and the powers that be gave ireland the rally on the strength of those, if it aint broke why fix it? less than 2 weeks to go, getting exciting, was down at a few stages there on wed, some very good rallying in store for us all (if we get close enough to see it!)

On the tape issue, we probably should be using the continuous orange net fencing that they use at events on the continent. It was definately needed in Donegal this year. Now who wants to whinge about the cost.

Don't slate the Tree-Huggers!!!! LOL! Don't you know that North Leitrim is a recognised hippy haven! They get grants to buy soap up there. We're lucky they allow cars on the roads at all.
