After their first ERC win in Greece, what odds Craig Breen / Scott Martin taking a second for the Peugeot 208 T16 R5? Lappi & Abbring won’t make it easy for him while it would be fair to expect Barrable & Sam Moffett to be in the mix for a podium spot too.

2WD & Production Classes have a fair smattering of local crews too and not forgetting Stephen & Suzanne Wright in the Juniors.

Meeke openly announced over that weekend that he was frustrated not to be doing this event. In fairness it's the best any international event looked in this country.

Alot of Respect must be given to Lappi for the weekend. He was oozing with confidence after the test and in places it showed. If that's what he can do to the establishment in a S2000 car. You'd feel for them when Skoda get this r5 running.

Daniel McKenna reaped the rewards of driving an intelligent rally. Never looked to be under pressure. Would I be right in saying that's the highest a 2wd car has ever finished in a ERC event?

Thomas Mc Caul

Wrc cars finished well ahead of S2000 - R5 cars this time compared to 2012 when Hannien was over 3 mins ahead of closest wrc.
Is it better drivers or type of stages that suit cars?
The milkman even beat the all erc guys except for winner!! Madness

get your calculator out before making rash comments......nationals didn't do stage 13 and got no time for it....

Because I'm sad I had to compare the Fear Báinne and Daniel Mc Kenna's times over the weekend just to get the difference in a top driver in an R3 car, versus a top driver in a good 2.0 car...taking out stage 13 which Declan didn't do, Daniels total was 02.07.38 and Declan's 02.07.56.....18 secs not a big pile over 215KM....

On Lappi's times versus Boyle.....I have Lappi's total, excluding ss13 at 1.57.38 and Boyle at 1.58.47.....bearing in mind, Lappi a professional driver, (that will be world champ some day)

And Lappi backed of after Breen retired, if those two had been at it to the finish the difference would have been bigger, but our guys can be proud of there performances this weekend; some pace. Lappi is definitely a star but Craig Breen should be proud of his performance for his pace is impressive; I hope the critics that were knocking him in 2012 take note; he now has a car worthy of his ability.

Ted Creedon
20-04-2014, 20:08
Yeah - it's a pity Breen went when he did. It would have been a good fight. Barrable and Wiegand had a good battle too and Sam Moffett has nothing to be ashamed of, either.

The big winner was the Circuit itself. Plenty of happy rally drivers enjoying some fine stages, great crowds, good organisation and even some sunshine..

The big thing I seen from the weekend was the support the rally had from locals...downpatrick regroup was jammed, as was the ards stage on Friday..when we stopped yesterday we couldn't get enough help and support from all the locals, stopping to see if we were okay, offering us tea, a place to park the car...and telling us how glad they were to see the rally...really made us as competitors feel great..,

jake
20-04-2014, 22:21
It really was a brilliant rally, and right up there with the classics. I havent enjoyed being in a field watching the circuit as much since the 1994 coi.!! It also looked and came across fantastic on tv, and even just to see and hear the drivers reactions at the end of hamiltons folly:) The crowds turning out in Ards was crazy, and brilliant to see. Hopefully it becomes a regular in the erc. It deserves it.
