So after four stages of the much anticipated irc circuit of Ireland what have we learned? Probably not much.. We already knew the 3 works skodas would be a class apart. We already knew the Irish lads would put up a strong 2nd level showing and we already knew the jennings would be a force in group n. However, what we didn't know is what massive renewed interest there would be in the circuit of Ireland. It brilliant to see and looking forward to tomorrow's stages..

Mikkelsen was fortunate after this morning's first stage:

"I was lucky, very lucky," said Mikkelsen. "We were flat in sixth gear when we ran wide and smashed the right-rear wheel against a rock. We were lucky not to get a puncture and even more lucky not to have the wheel disintegrate. We were only five kilometres into the stage, but we got through."

It is not that unusual and in fact is a natural tuning into his French team. The human ear naturally tunes into different sounds and if you have a musical ear for different tones then your own tone will also alter. He has been hanging about with the French for the best part of two weeks so is in tune with them-thats all that is happening.

On the Breen accent, my cousin lived in Austria for a few years. I went to visit him. He talked normal to me but when he spoke English to his Austrian friends, accent changed completely. If it's a Eurosport guy interviewing for a Eurosport audience as opposed to an Irish guy interviewing Breen and given that he's been trying to communicate with French mechanics for a week so it's only natural his accent will have changed whether he realises it or not. No other reason and it's def not because he's embarrassed to be Irish

The stands looked half empty to me. Then again, to charge what they wanted was ridiculous, I was going to go, but for the price id rather stand in a wet field. Surely it could have been cheaper, the executive, council or tourist board or whoever helping to make it more family friendly pricing and pack the place out. Do they not realise that its easter and familys are probably going to have to fork out to keep the kids entertained or bring them somewhere etc on mon & tues , all requiring the hard earned.
I thought the circuit has been a great success and well done to everyone involved but the place should of been rammed packed, and on tv it looked a bit unsupported compared to other countries super specials, which is a shame as we bang on to the world about how big the sport is here. Maybe im way off the mark but just my opinion.

Was at 2 stages today and have to say the marshals did a great job and were very friendly and accommodating. Reasonable crowds out on the stages and no messing from anyone, just the way it used to be when "The Circuit" used to be a proper rally.

But the media thing looked a bit of a joke, lots of compact cameras about and a few media people removing tape and forbidden ground signs so it wouldn't be in their photos

Yep, just saw that there now. I know it's unusual for a crew to have a big shunt like that and still be able to continue, but you have to wonder that the lad got a whack on the head, openly admitted to feeling sick, yet his fitness to drive down a stage at 130mph wasn't questioned.

Yep, just saw that there now. I know it's unusual for a crew to have a big shunt like that and still be able to continue, but you have to wonder that the lad got a whack on the head, openly admitted to feeling sick, yet his fitness to drive down a stage at 130mph wasn't questioned.

Wonder who would have had to answer the questions if he had blacked-out on the last stage and went off and/or hit spectators. I know they are saying it's precautionary but if he was a soccer or rugby player and took a nasty bump to the head during a match he'd have been taken off and checked out straight away by medics

Exactly. The cog test is very common in rugby these days. The medic asks the player a few pre-defined simple questions. It the player struggles to answer he's off. It would be interesting to see if anything of the like exists in Motorsport.

Anyway, onto the rallying. Mighty weekend. Great craic at the field of many offs on SS3. I was away home early in the day yesterday, but it was so easy to get updates and videos from Rally radio and the IRC site. Fair play to them for making the effort to get the news up on the net. It's the way forward in terms of Motorsport media.

Well done to Craig Breen, the keyboard warriors will never be happy. A shower of bloody moaners who cannot or will not acknowledge his achievement. This weekend the best Irish driver on the island.

Happy Easter to all.

As the song goes "Christ you know it ain't easy, you know how hard it can be, the way things are going, they're going to crucify me"

Its world level Breen aiming for..no doubt about it his car hadnt the legs of the skodas but if there should of been greater signs of speed this weekend..He was on home turf,he's been out more often than the skoda men this year..He should of went at that rally the way Mc Carthy attacks West Cork, all or nothing..The man should of been putting his life on the line for fastest stage times yesterday if he wants to have future at level World..

Well done ?? What Rally were you following ? Before the rally Craig has aspirations of winning it , without the penalty he was 3:23 behind the winner and bar the last two stages he was on average 20 sec a stage slower than Hänninen on some stages 30 sec . Despite what Craig was saying to the media about it being a sucessful wekend etc when he goes home he will be dissapointed .Yes he was the fastest Irish driver the weekend but he has higher hopes than that .
I dont know why you are saying his 'some people cannot or will not acknowledge his achivements ' i asume you are talking about winning the Academy last year ?- his achivements were acknowledged he was by far the fastest driver in that last year and deserved to win it . But that was last year and he has moved up a class now and when you move up a class the competition gets stiffer and better and you have to rise to it - he has quite a bit to do to come up to that going on his times the weekend on terrain that he has rallied on before -because it aint going to get any easier for the rest of the year :(

Just looked at the Eurosport Coverage there and I thought there would of been a lot more people out watching the rally it seems very quiet, and also is the Eurosport commentator in love With Jennings he seems seduced by his driving and I probably wouldnt blame him or anyone if you look at 20:55 on the coverage some commitment

Funny comment about Gary spending all his money on the car instead of getting his hair cut :laugh:

Quote from Mikkleson about the crash

"We were both hit unconscious and were gone for about 40 sec before we got going again. I don't remember anything, but apparently I got to the finish. The whole ss is gone from memory. When we started the ss second time I had no idea we had driven it before. And I didn't know where I was, if it was Ireland or Norway."

Gary Jennings is one of the best drivers in Ireland. If he can do Ypres an a couple of others he wil show those in Europe wat a group n car can do as well.

Chris Ingram on some pace in the twingo...had a massive moment beside us..some car, makes the c2's look like their stopped

It definatelty felt like we were pushing through the Friday night stages, seemed to really suit the car and set up.

Where abouts were you? We had a few moments on Friday.

Overall we had a cracking weekend, awesome stages, awesome atmosphere and amazingly friendly marshals/speccies. Big thanks to the peccies that pushed us off the bank on SS6.

Over the moon with 3rd in class 6 after we had to do 2 stages with a gear linkage held together with wire and cable ties.

Any pictures or videos or car 40, please pm me or email joe [email protected] (remove the space)

The S2000's really are a pleasure to watch, especially the Skodas, the scream off the the n/a just pure revs and they are so nimble and agile, the pace was frightening passsing us in some places at d weekend, more interesting to watch than a WR car in my opinion. Its a pity Kelly couldnt keep going, himself and Hetherington were on Some mission as usual. Great weekend.

That eurosport commentator is terrible. Only thing worse is Breens accent!

Its truely awful, sounds like he is making it up as he goes along.. seems like no prep work at all done.. maybe thats the way they want it to sound.. know I could not listen to it..

Yes a great weekend was had some great action serious pace and a great atmosphere about, great job by bobby and his team, stages looked good and stages in the dark are some job.
Here's hoping we will have the IRC back again

Also must add listening to rally radio the rare time you could get any coverage the Irish lads left it one of the most enteraning rally radios I've herd in a long time, some great interveiw's and great characters, not your average droll stage end comments like on other events, just good craic

yer off yer head, you dont get seats handed to you by puting your life on the line for stage times, ok if its going to decide the rally or a championship,
Guys like that dont exist or last
all the teams want consistancey not a rush of blood ..............

and its the first of four events in the team, no need for heroics so soon. There is no way he would have been matching the works skodas the whole weekend, hanninen is an unbelievably quick driver, with loads of experience, and mikkelsen is IRC champ, and doing it longer than breen.

I think it was a solid start for him, learning the car and the team for the other 3 events with them, we should see some more speed in corsica definitely..

When was the last time a Ford Fiesta s2000 was anywhere in the top results in the IRC...Alastair Fisher was going very well but he made a mistake...Craig Breen had road penalties but he finished the rally nearly 5 minutes off the lead and behind his French teammate on his own patch....I don't think there's anything positive in that...The Peugeot is nearer to the Skoda than the Fiesta is....the only two Irish men who did themselves any favous last weekend were Garry Jennings (who got well-deserved coverage) and Marty Mc Cormack

He shouldn't worry about it, Meeke has the same accent when he does international tv interviews.
