Kospecky has left the skoda team.

Ya saw that last night, did he leave or was he just replaced?

Nice selection of drivers to watch next year. And with two irish lads in three championships, WRC SWRC & IRC, excellent!!!!

Reports on Auosport.cz saying Hanninen, Mikkelsen and Kopecky will drive for Skoda next year in IRC, with Hanninen doing ERC, and Kopecky doing Czech championship also. Coming from Skoda Motorsport themselves. New livery looks well

Skoda did indicate at one stage that Kopecky would only do the Czech championship but I think that was when they thought they had Neuville on board (Neuville said maybe, his manager said no).

Add Sepp Wiegand to the list, doing all rounds in a Fabia with Skoda Deutschland, tbc in a couple of days.

http://www.rallye-magazin.de/rallyes/wm/nachrichten/news-detail/d/2011/12/18/vw-junior-bei-skoda-deutschland/index.html

Also Loix's sponsor BFO are supposedly looking at a switch to Fiesta, only rumours though.

If Freddy can get a programme together the asphalt bias should suit.

Is Breen doing both S-WRC and IRC or is he only doing a few rounds of the IRC and all of S-WRC??

Noel157
18-12-2011, 19:37
Would imagine S-WRC will take priority for Breen.

Gardemeister does not have a programme at present
Nouville will only do Azores, Romania, San Marino and Cyprus (all gravel) to supplement his WRC programme.
Bouffier/PSA yet to confirm full series..

How sure is it that Proton will be using them drivers ? Has it been even confirmed that Proton are doing the Irc ?

I saw somewhere that PG wanted to do S-WRC and APRC with Proton and that he also had a budget for 2 or 3 WRC outings (Fiesta) too but no word since.

Was just thinking how things can turn around in rallying.. On the first 2011 Irc event the Monte, both mikkelsen and neuville were off the road on the very first stage and guy wilks went on to finish a very credible third. Since then mikkelsen has won the irc title overall and landed a new vw contract while neuville has landed himself a Citroën wrc contract. Guy on the other hand seems to found himself in the rallying wilderness.. Just an observation on the thin line between hero and zero..

Think the crucial part of what you said there Aidan was "first 2011 IRC event".... A lot changes over the course of a season. Sure Mads Ostberg was in contention for the win on the first 2011 WRC event. Things level out over a year. Cream rises to the top and the rest usually sink gradually....

I understand (at present at least) Peugeot have instructed all their importers not to fund teams in the championship in 2012 ahead of the 208 R4T in 2013. Peugeot Belux may only do Ypres and a couple of other events. Peugeot in Portugal (Meghales), Czech Republic (local events only), UK, Poland and Italy have or will withdraw from IRC.
The factory will enter the new Evo car in some of bigger IRC/WRC events (RMC, Corsica etc) most likely with Bouffier and/or Sarrazin.

It'll be interesting who van Dalen is talking to, perhaps some kind of private team or indeed some kind of effort on behalf of the factory.

''We have cars capable of winning rallies and the personnel in place with all the experience necessary to be very successful in the IRC," said van Dalen.

While Peugeot Belgium-Luxembourg, with whom we maintain a very strong relationship, won't be doing as many events in 2012, Kronos is in talks with drivers and other partners about competing in the IRC with our team in 2012." - Marc Van Dalen in Autosport.

Yep front wheel drive, and apparently Renault Sport won't be doing a gravel kit for them so dont expect to see may trying the BRC! Hope to see whoever brings them over will drive them on! They propably will be fine but it will be interesting to see how they will get on at the Circuit though, having just been doing relatively smooth terrain thus far!

I think that the road car would be a great base for a Group N rally car. Pity the powers that be don't believe in a genuine production class anymore. Could be a great class with Golf GTI's and Focus ST's (with a different restrictor) and any other 2WD car with a 2.0L turbo.

I understand that the Hungarian round, Rally Mecsek, will be cancelled and replaced by the Targa Florio (famous asphalt rally) in Italy. Appears that the Mecsek organisers didn't pay all their fee to Eurosport (as promoters) last season. Should be announced shortly.

The Megane is a Group N car: http://www.renault-sport.com/en/rally/megane_n4/presentation.php I wonder if an R4 (or R4T) version is planned???

The Megane might be a N4 car but it is most definitely not a "genuine production class" car like I'm talking about. I mean production class as in put in the safety gear and away you go. Is that Megane not £100k or close too it?

The different restrictor is to take account of the Focus being 2500cc.

The R1 category is probably the closest to a production class. The FIAs thinking with the R classes is that the bigger the car, the more modifications permitted.

Yea the R1 class is very close to a production car but it's unfortunately also low on horsepower and still quite expensive.

A quick look on autotrader shows Megane 225's starting at £3500, add in another £3k to prep it for tarmac rallying and away you go. If you could talk another 5 men into doing the same you could have a great bit of competition between yourselves for not much outlay.

There used to be Standard Production Classes in Irish Rallying, but they were scrapped about 20 years ago, can't remember the exact reason but I think it was driven by safety/scrutiny concerns. Brendan(?) Kelly from Donegal used to be spectacular in the silver Starlet (first of the front wheel drive models I believe) with four Semperit Hi-Lifes under it.
