Roger Albert Clark Rally - Statement

It is with great regret that I have to inform you all that the promotion company R.A.C. Rally Ltd which was set up to look after the financial affairs of the Roger Albert Clark Rally has had to go into voluntary liquidation as of the 20th April 2009.

The event organisers the De Lacy Motor Club Ltd have asked the organising committee to look at the best options available to continue with the running of the Rally.

The event organising committee have applied to the MSA to set up a new motor club on a not for profit organisation basis to continue the event moving forward.

The organising committee should be in a position to announce the event after the new motor club has been set up with the MSA.

It is requested that the motorsport public give the organising committee some time to ensure that the future of the most popular event in the motorsport calendar is on a sound basis for years to come.

It is envisaged that a full announcement can be made during late May.

Regards

Colin Heppenstall
Rally Manager

On the British Rally Forum there's a post asking potential entries to express their interest in competing on the event website so if any Irish crews are thinking of doing the rally now is the time to register that wish.

if you read the article in motorsport news last year with the feature on Hirvonen with the ex Hannu Mikola mk2. he was a disgrace sayin that he thought it would be hard to drive with the manual box and stuff like that. i think bjorn waldergard was there with him(prob shakin his head).

i remember reading it thinking about wat Ari Vatanen said before about the WRC, give them all RWD's with a 4 speed gearbox and then it'd be exciting

News from the RAC website:D:D!

2009 Event Announced
De Lacy Motor Club are proud to announce this years Roger Albert Clark Rally.
The event will be taking place Friday 13th November to Monday 16th November 2009, and will be starting in Pickering.

Colin Heppenstall Rally Manager said “To try and cut costs for the competitors this year we have brought the event closer to where the action takes place in the Yorkshire Forests” Colin continues “We have reduced the overall event mileage by 150 miles and reduced the entry fee by £230 if paid before the end of June”

The event will be based from the Event Centre, at Pickering Showground, where eligibility checks will take place on Friday afternoon, followed by the event start and two stages later that afternoon. Colin said “Using the Events Centre gives the Rally a great opportunity to start the 2009 event in style, incorporating all the facilities and a special stage within the venue. This will give spectators an excellent opportunity to see the cars and crews up close”

The event has continued to evolve with two new forests not previously used on the event for the Saturday, which has allowed the event to review which stages it uses and their format.

The event will once again spend Saturday and Sunday nights in Carlisle, with a city centre finish at 12 noon on Monday.

In the middle of the recession, the longest most expensive rally for (rear) 2-wheel drive cars bucks the trends and remains the most popular.

Anyone in WRC land studying this at all?

Evans would have finished in the middle of the top 10 on the Manx on his stage times we're told.

The only real progress of WRC, Gp N etc seems to be in the cost of competing, at the expense of the spectacle.

"Ok the situation is a little clearer but this information may not be definitive. Car 5 Darren Moon went off on Olivers Mount (probably as a result of oil dropped on the track) and hit three spectators. They have now been evacuated by County Ambulance to hospital. I do not have any information on their injuries. I am sure we will all join in sending them our best wishes.

The event is proceeding but is currently running about 65 minutes late."

Speak for yourself....I think you will find most spectators go too watch the Escorts as there is NO better sound than a proper historic spec Escort through the forests!!!!!!

I think Rob Smith should be congratulated on his 5th place in the Chevette HSR. Looking at the videos it's great to hear the BDA Escort's but after 5 of them, there is just to many, it becomes like ground hog day, not another one!

Rob has proven that you can make a Chevette reliable enough to make the finish of this tough event, and this despite the Chevettes having to use 30 year old heads, blocks etc as unlike the BDA it isnt all remanufactured new. He also has the job of coming up with his own set up, as he really has no one to compare this too, unlike the countless Escort's, and i'm sure the car given the right set up and in the right hands it would be capable of being out front.

Also great to see the Ascona 400's, but where are the Lotus Sunbeam's and TR7 V8's?

Sal
17-11-2009, 09:40
The TR8 blew up on Olivers Mount sadly! As for the Sunbeam's think the point you made about the Chevette applies as well for the Beams. The Escort is still a "current" rally car and new parts are readily available.

Well I am obviously speaking from my personal view but I don't think there are that many people who go to a rally just to watch escorts, surely they go to watch the rallying in general rather than a specific car.

I like escorts but it would be nice to have some more variety.
