I noticed that after the tragic news of Colin's death the post I had on the Killarney Escort had been taken off.
I am making one for the McRae family

I had a lot of enquries about this model AND PLEASE NOTE THE MODELS WHERE FORSALE BEFORE COLIN'S ACCIDENT.

I did say I wouldnt sell anymore but it does seem a shame that there are people out there wanting them for their own collection and I know people will buy and sell them on ebay to make a quick buck and this is the world we live in, but this is where I am asking for the advice of the members so please dont shoot me down in flames when I ask.

Would you the McRae fan/ model collectors like this model to be available again
OR
Do you think it would be wrong to carry on selling it EVEN though they where forsale long before Colin's death as he signed one for a friend of mine which he still has

Jonathan McDonald has ok'ed it with me to put this post up so any of the mods on here PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE IT as I would like to see what you the forum members think

And please dont have a go a me I'm just asking for your thoughts
Thankyou

Just to confirm, these were on sale before Colin's accident so this is not a case of Mark trying to profit from what has happened. As Mark has said, it would be good to have other people's thoughts on this.

to sell to us genuine rally fans at the same cost as before and on an "order only" basis to me would be fitting but for the likes of mass producing 20 and ebaying them would be wrong and personally mark i know it wouldn't be your thing either

Mark
I think you should go ahead with the model,s I for one have been a McRae fan since I can remember. And would love to have the MK2 for my own collection.

So please go ahead for the Genuine McRae fan that will never want to sell or part with the models.

Thanks Graham / Eymard
When I first made them I had 20 sets of decals each made so they are not a mass produced model like my others or the other model lads cars

I never intended when first done to make a load as I only wanted to make it for my own collection but the price I had to pay for the decals to be made up it was easier for the maker to make 20 sets

On the Killarney I only have about 8 sets left
others around the same so really i'm not out to make loads just to sell to the genuine collectors like yourself

Just an update of the 8 Killarney 5 have now been pre sold

Also depending on availability the model could be on a Trofeu base as opposed to an Ixo base
Like I said these are built to order and not stocked
This is a trofeu base which a collector wanted building but with bits added of the Pirelli car which included, different seats, gearstick, full cage mod, dash re made which was extra, but you can see the casting differences between the Ixo above and Trofeu model here

i looked at your killarney post before the unfortunate event and was impressed with the escort, and no one can accuse you of being opportunistic. i think keep up the good work it's a tribute to the man himself. I would really like to acquire one myself, feel free to pm me the price and time scale of getting one if any are available and payment details

Mark,

What is your website name? I saw Model Motorsport on you posts but i dont see the McRae Escort shown.

I am also a Mcrae fan / Model collector and may be interested in this model - would also like to know the price / lead time?

Was fortunate enough to see the Escort in Killarney in action and the 6R4 in Donegal - no chance of making the 6R4 also?

Thanks

Terry

Mark, as you say, you did Colins cars before, I say keep right on doing them, but if I were you I would sell 2 of the same to anyone, and if you catch people flogging them of on ebay name and shame them and dont deal with them again!

Mark even if you put like a sticker on each one like a code and the name of the person it was ordered for so it devalues it if it were to be sold on eg 001: niall mckenna mcrae escort 2007 or something like that to make it difficult to profit but more personal for the buyer??

Mark Lowe
01-10-2007, 14:46
I suppose thats a good thing Niall I keep the list of names of whos bought one and if it does go to ebay then thats upto the person that said they where a collector and where only out for selling on and making more, which I think the majority of people on here wont do as they realise its not a mass produced model and if they did sell on they would realise after they sold it they might not get another unless they have to pay a higher price from someone else should they realise what a mistake they made in the first place

Mark Lowe

Can I please mention the following again
With regards to these McRae models I do not have a big stock of base models so your model could be an Ixo version like the one here
http://mysite.orange.co.uk/colinmcraemk2escort/images/6-picture1.jpg or a Trofeu base version like the one here
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/138/mcraekillarneykm4.jpg

The majority will be based on Trofeu models (pic above) as the Ixo version is getting hard to source and I am certainly not buying a minimum run of 1000 models from Ixo.

Regarding this car http://mysite.orange.co.uk/model-motorsport/images/5-picture3.jpg the seats you can see are fitted as extras as too is the cage and other bits added, this is because the buyer wanted to pay more for the upgrades. If I added them all to each models you would be looking at a price from £65-£100 for what I call a mega built model.

So any of the pre orders still on my list I can only say now that it will most probably be on a Trofeu base and yest both models where originally Roger Clark 76 RAC models and not just the Trofeu and if you do not wish to have your model on the Trofeu base then please let me know ASAP and either I will take you off the list or there could be a wait for an Ixo version

Thanks

Here is a model I have added extras to what Kieran O'Neill has bought
with cage mods, different seats, paddle shift on steering column, WR handbrake and gearstick and 4 spoke wheels which I am trying to get more of

Mark Lowe
15-12-2007, 23:05
Sorry about the delay but I was waiting for more base models to arrive which are now here.

I am starting on these now and the list I have of names will be getting done

Anyone that drops out of the list then the people that asked to be put on a reserve list will get first refusal

Some collectors have said they would send money but havent they will be offered to the reserve list people

Then I'm going to have a nice break from models for a bit

Yep they are mine from my own collection so I dont have a set now for myself as this was due to a personal issue that I had to raise some money as looking at them dont pay the bills.

It was also said in the description I sold other subaru models from my personal collection

and I havent mass produced and ebayed them all as members on here know that
It was "One" set of three of my own, I didnt force people to bid that much and one bidder paid double for a set of mcrae subaru gloves from a test which where signed so i'm not the only one who sold mcrae items.

I still have models I am doing for people on here, but I could of said **** em and put the lot on ebay.

If anyone else is wanting a pop at me, then bring it on.
I have a home and family to look after and if it means selling from my own collection I will do that to pay the bills

Mark i would'nt take any notice , If you had any other way of not selling your pride and joys you would have done that first .

I know from others and myself that your a man who has pride in what he does , and as you've said if you were a money grabber you'ed mass produce and e/bay the lot .

Hope all is well and dont worry about others for a change ;)

Have to agree, Mark you are a sound guy and your integrity can never be questioned. As you are the original modeler, no one can question who or why you sell to. Sometimes personal finance has to become before models, even if we wish it didn't.
Keep up the good work man.

Thanks lads

If anyone has had a problem with the models I sold them then they have had long enough to get back to me and I would of sorted it out straight away regarding wrong wheels as somebody has mentioned to me I explained all above that most where trofeu models now and dont come with mirrors but if anyone wanted the car to have the extras I have to buy them and I would only charge what they cost me.

I could of been a selfish **** and hiked up the price and still sold them and made nice profits and be greedy but I didnt.

As people will see from my website I dont sell as much now but I do advertise other peoples models for free

You cant please everyone though

Needs must-stuff the begrudgers-there is always one around somewhere-so many seem to be cashing in on the Irish rally model scene with little regard for quality that it is ruining it for the perfectionists. Keep on trucking Mark.
