Its a 2000 model. Does changing the short block solve the issue of these engines burning oil? Is it a permanent fix or could the engine start doing it again ?

Its a 2000 model. Does changing the short block solve the issue of these engines burning oil? Is it a permanent fix or could the engine start doing it again ?I think if you contact your local toyota dealer they might still be under warranty for this problem, i know the car is seven years old but toyota had a recall of these engines because of this problem and if yours hasnt been fixed/sorted alrady i think you might be entitled to some sort of warranty.

No its out of warranty, this isnt my motor just checking for a friend. The garage got him a new short block and thats it.. but is that the fix for a burning oil vvti ?? surely there must be more to sorting the problem?

I think there's a warranty to change that offenting part before 100,000 miles, the same thing happened my corolla last year was suprised to find it still under warranty, while expecting a huge bill.Mite be worth your while sussing out...

All VVTi s burn a little oil. All you need to do is keep an eye on it.
