Hello people. I would just like to ask if any of you use the F13 6-speed dog box made by Quaife for use on Opel Corsa B 1600cc, 16v. I bought the gearbox about a year ago. It broke down 3 times. I was just wondering if anyone else has the same problems or if you know if it is a usual problem that this gearbox comes up with.

it is generally accepted that quaife gears are made from chocolate, this is especially the case with the F13/15 and F20 dog boxes. a good trick with these is to machine off every other dog ,ie,make it 3dog instead of 6dog.its not difficult cause the gears are soft as ****e anyway.lots of people now have started to use dog-boxes from other manufacturers, sadev springs to mind. they seem expensive but are cheap in the long run. my 2ps worth

if you remove every other dog and cut out the bridges between corresponding slots this dramatically improves the quality of the gearchange.this is herasy if you talk to quaife but it is essentially what they did with the type 9 ford box (ie reduced the number of dogs in order to increase the amount of backlash between the dogs therefore improving the chances of immediate engagement [it dosn't grind as much going into gear]). i dont know what you are breaking or if you work at the box yourself . pm me a number if you want.
