Well Subaru dont build any WRC's and Ford dont build any either its done by Prodrive and MSport so does that mean that they are not works cars either? Asquith Motorsport built a few Civics that i would describe as works cars so id say thats probably the 3 thats mentioned..
thats right cause your man hally has the other one

yeah but having looked into and around a lot of civics and seen how the stand up in a crash i know which one i would rather have.
and as a clue its not the donegal one.
the best civic in this country is foleys old eg6 wide track 1800 type R that was some beast i'll never forget the sunday in killarney he beat dennis cronin in the m3 on both runs up the gap.
or another day testing it on the n3 with the shift light on in 5th but we wont talk about that ;)

car now has 192bhp courtsey of motec:yes:
car is the nuts as far as civics go, was built in 96 and was never reshelled, and is still in mint condition,
Car can be seen in west cork,

i haven't seen this thread till now and looking at the results it appears he wasnt quicker than cronin but he did win an award for fastest modified car up the gap and that is real and true as i remember it at the prize giving
ye all are really clutching at straws to have a go at me getting sick and tired of all the phiss talk on here
and mister gt4 he wasnt driving the car when it was crashed it was sold on after that to someone who has never been out in d car and is currently being rebuilt.
and GT4 last time i saw ure car it looked like it has just came out of a fight with a tree and the tree won !!! so you saying donegal civics are undrivable as well ???

i sat in this car for skibereen, and i can tell you the car ran faultlessy for a start and its also a very quick car ,and i have no doubts what so ever that when declan gets to grips with the car,the results are going to come.he didnt put a foot wrong all day and with each outing in it i think he is going to silance a lot of the critics that have posted on here,im amazed that he hasnt flown off the handle with all the comments thats been made, but then again, like the way he drives the car,hes cool ,calm and collected................i would sit with him anytime, not something i say lightly..........keep the revs up deco.

sure you said a while ago yourself that its a standard engine and box, its seems to be the way to go with her, at least she's reliable now. and the brakes are good on her so i don't see why your getting upset, everything i said was true. that car won't be able to compete in that class and thats a fact. i've been in that class for 2 years so i know
so what cars can compete in that class????

S1600s only really, look at brian o'mahony in carlow 13th o/a inc. mark 2s. hard to compete with that, that class should be split really
flatcrest500
14-05-2007, 20:06
well then there will be only 3 people in the s1600 class!!
Ya True for u Barry but how do u split them up?alot of cup cars running trottle bodies and stuff bringing them to kit spec! from wot i see,so who goes s1600 or group a?

There is enough s1600 cars in the country now for a class of their own. Trying to compete against a s1600 with a cup car there is no chance.
Stage 7 half way through the stage after a sq left 100 2 left 40 1 right. fellow in j5 wos pedaling away as well.
theres no comparison in the cars but if yo split that class youll have to do it for most classes

well sure everyone knows what an s1600 is, clio, puma,206,saxo, corsa etc. no matter what you do with a 106 cup car you'll never make it compete with these, no sequential box, not as much power and smaller brakes. its like class 9. thats split according to 8v and 16v but you could have an 8v with throttle bodies and big brakes that would be quicker than a 16v, but what can you do?
adareflair
14-05-2007, 20:22
But it is the whole package that counts. If you were to take s1600 cars out of class 6 you'd be left with a more or less even class compared to what's there at the moment.
Well we just say we have a 206 cup car 190 bhp 6 speed dog big brakes its lighter then a kit car should that be classed as a??????
Is Seamus o Gradys car proton a s1600 or group A????
yeah..........was a quick section up there alright frank..........very fast down into the square left as well...........the made a right mess of where they put the chicane further down the stage though, made it more awkard than it needed to be.

I'd like to see the 206 cup car that weighs less than a kit car Franky you know well for a start the 206 is no light car. Don't know his car what's in it?
Anybody out there know the weight of a 206 cup car and a 206 s1600??
just wondering wot the difference is? anyway Niall a cup car should make up for it`s down on power with it`s handling?compared to s1600 anyway?

even with 190 bhp and a dog box, it still should'nt be as quick as a s1600 with 220bhp, sequential and bigger brakes (17" wheels). 1 way of spliting it would be a 1600 gr A running on 17s is classed as a s1600. it obviously has more power if its running 17" wheels and can run bigger brakes.
might be 1 way of doing it, and seamus's car should defo be classed as s1600, thats a rocket of a car, i was in it.

One of my 206 cars weighs 1120Kg and the other weighs 1200Kg. Weight limit for A6 car is 920Kg. I can gaurentee you that S1600 cars are on the limit of 920Kg. As for the handling do you really think that if you paid 100K+ for a S1600 that it wouldn't handle better than a car for 20K.

doing that single stage in the midlands and then donegal if i get in, ya its R100 LAD think i have her sorted now, did that almc mini stage in jan and was going ok, was about 8th o/a on the last stage but hit a chicane and broke a trackrod end and pulled out the drive, so that was that.
i'd say she was fun alright ray, but in fairness she was only thrown together back then, i mean you can't just weld 2" into a standard wishbone to make a car widetrack and expect it to handle, you need to push the strut out on top too! ever hear of bump steer?
Tut Tut so it wos not a lucky car for u so? sure r99 lad needs a new shell has not being seen in a year the owner rolled it in a mondello rallysprint.

wasnt my car baz, just doing my job!, the back was worse than the front, those wishbones were the closest the car was to handling, real & true!!, put it this way , he was more concerned with the handling of the car , lhd familiarity was never given a thought, just got on with the job, good way to get used to lhd, not funny at times for either of us

all that was wrong with the back was the proflex was bust, the problem was the front, shocks were in to far on top and it caused serious bump steer, i bet every time you hit a bump or even a pot hole she just swapped ends? harry hockly sorted it out for me, said it was the worst set-up he ever saw!

mind you fair play to peter wilson in a 1600 civic who was lying 3rd overall at the same time beating all the class 6 by 47 sec after 2 stages but hey what civic would keep with the s1600:whistle:

thats true, but we did a 10.19 on ss3 (not recorded cos we handed in timecards when we stopped on stage 4) which put us 13 o/a and we were going much better on ss 4, 12 secs up on first run at midpoint, and i think 2 or 3 cars dropped out on the last loop too so we would have been around 8th - 10th o/a.
you can ask mr franky dwyer if you want he sat in and he was working out the times - not me. was an ok run much more left tho, i'm sure you had a bit left too in skib, an ex-works civic is surely capable of more than 60o/a in a mini stage?

im sure the car has alot more in it, the car could have won the rally outright if its first driver in 96 was drivin it:wacko: i was happy with how i done was my first time left hand drive and in the car, only started to drive a rally car in the carlow single stage in a 106 rallye, so to me i was pleased with 60th O/a hopefull when i have some experience drivin and get to know the car i hopefully will get better results, but for now ill get used to walkin before i try runnin:surrender:
your obviously still gettin used to your bus as that car is definatly capeable of winnin a single stage/mini stage? i have a good bit of learnin as you have been drivin for a few years now and your just gettin to grips with the saxo, i have no doubt your results will start commin this year for you:wine::yahoo:
