Yes I was allso wondering about this TAX MOT isnt that all you need then you pay your insurance in the entry fee for each events??

I was told to get you rallycar past MOT you need STD seat belts and no rosejoints are permitted also in the suspension components??

I put my car through the test centre here every year with harnesses fitted and rose jointed suspension and it has never failed. I dont think a car will pass with perspex front windows im told by one of the inspectors they must be glass. Your car must pass all the rest of the tests for a standard road car eg lighting alignment, emissions, braking, suspension, wipers, horn, "road legal tyres",corrosion, windscreen cracks, chips, number plates, wheels not protruding beyond the wheel arch, exhaust and overall condition etc etc etc.
Tax is required on vehicles when they traverse the public road and to get tax you need an mot and insurance. Some events dont require road tax eg kirkistown , bishopscourt and aghadowey but the regs still state your car must be eligible to be taxed and therefore must have an MOT.

on top of this i think you must also have glass windows on both front doors! if not i've seen in the past people taking them out the day of MOT, cause whats not there cant be marked upon! windows on the doors are not required... but if its perspex and fixed closed like many clubmen have then nope! i dont think its passable..

i stand to be corrected!

I think you are allowed to take your car on the road if it is not taxed for MOT purposes. But dont quote me on that. Ring DVLNI and should (theoretically) be able to tell you.

I had my 205 rallye MOTd in Ballymena. It had a roll cage and harnesses in it at the time but not alot else done to it. I think thats what actually got it through the test - I gave the man a big sob story as to how it was only ever trailered to events and its never on the road other than when rallying. If it had been taken in before it had stuff fitted to it, it probably would never have passed.

My dad tends to take his cars to Scotland/England to have them tested. Its a bit of a handlin just for an MOT but he's never had one failed yet. They have on occasions given him a list of things to be fixed and sent him on his merry way. You'd never get that here. Think its because the test centres there are privately owned as opposed to government controlled. They are out to make money, not catch people out
