I'm thinking of going down the1.6 16v vauxhall road for my corolla
Who builds them?
Are they better than the good old 4age?
What bhp possible?
Whats the cost?
etc etc

And that same engine now owened by Pat Ryan from Limerick was recently stripped after he finished 9th O/A in the Clare Single Stage by the scrutineers and found to be perfectly legal.
(As mentioned inl ast month's M.I. bulliten)

As JP said Bill Falconer seems pretty reliable, he has built Colin O'Tooles last 2 engines and they dont seem to have given any probs, just bloody fast!!(driver helps too)

seems to be reasonable for what he does

martin bower is the best man to build a vaux engine if you can wait last i heard it was over a year of a wait

the engine in neill weavers corsa is a bower 1400 with 190bhp and i read somewhere that bower reckons he can get more out of it

bill falknor is also very good its worth giving him a ring he is fairly busy as well thou

Bill Falconer built a 1400 16v engine for Alan Mackey in Wexford which is 201 bhp. CK performance engines in Wexford built the engines in John Somers Nova, Paul Purtill's new Escort (unless he changed it), and also done the 1400 engines in Brian Kirwan and Paddy Dwyer's Nova, 2 top juniors contenders. So thats good 1400, 1600 and 2000cc 16v engines, all with good pedigree. Guy Croft is another good one, while one less unknown engine builder but builds a cracking engine of any description is Keith McMullen in Co. Cork or Dr. Keith as they call him!

all them boys are probably as good as each other...it all depends on how quick ya want the engine....and who lives closest...

thanks for the details i,m looking for something with plenty of torque not necessary that its a real real screamer something in round the 180bhp mark that'll pull well on gravel

U'd probably be aswell off 2 stick wit toyota then it would be a cheaper option mayb. ? Casey builds Paul Mul's engine 4 the orange starlet he'd be a good test of any engine & as John Breanan Mentioned my engine was stripped after Clare & had 8 cc 2 spare......

you can up to 220bhp out of them, my daa has to of them engines and not once has one of them given any troulbe, john Donnelly built bith them but as far as i no he has stopped building engine, john reed is a good man to build one, but you can pay uo to £10,000 for one of them.

driver helps but seamus & dolores behan bought colins last engine and they have suddenly turned into a quick crew... so i think his engines are making a big difference... but agreed the driver helps but the engines seem to go well in most hands

Might also be worth considering the 2 litre xe (red top) engine. This can be destroked to 1600cc and provide quite good low and midrange torque, works out a little more expensive in the begining than a same power 1600, but if you ever plan upgradeing to 2 litre then most of the work will already be done.
