View Full Version : Honda B18c head onto a B16b
Noel Kelleher 04-03-2011, 09:41 Has anyone put a complete b18c 1.8 integra type r head onto a b16b 1.6 type r civic engine?, if so are they a direct fit?, what advantages are there?, is there a better head on a later integra b18 that wud fit? I was hoping to keep intake, injectors, throttle bodie and exhaust all b18c to match the head, will this all work ok??
Thanks again in advance, any help is appreciated..
lukeymacirl 04-03-2011, 13:11 As far as i know the two heads are the same thing. the difference is in the stroke of the engines and the intake and the throttle body. if you changed the intake and the throttle body you will prob see a nice difference in torque and a small bhp increase.
I did it b4 , total waist of time . Bottom end of d 1.6b is to soft , just by a 1.6 type r Eng ,
B1.6a block .stick on a set of jenveys and 200 horses easy , alot cheaper ..Trust me

I thought a B16b was a Type R engine?

Id agree with that, but not sure if the 98spec 1.8 is a small bit better, bigger inlet and throttle body is a nice upgrade, i did this before but used my own injectors as i think they are all the same flow rate, but i used an adjustable fuel pressure regulator
I also had the 1.8 head on a b16a block with no problems, just used a b16a timing belt

the type r 1600 is a B16B block and is completely different to a B16a block,
best bang for your buck is to get a complete type r B16b engine and fit it to your car, you then have a good base to modify.

excactly and if you wanted to go down the route of performance cams and throttle bodies you will get more of a reward in power and torque over a B16a

The reason I posted this is I have a b16b in my eg6 and instead of putting on throttle bodies or cams, I cud put a complete b18c head on the b16b engine but as I say I dont know if there is any point, power advantage wise???

no power advantage....
If you have a standard gearbox, you next step should be a gearkit and then power modifications.
A gear kit will transform the cars performance

I'd have to second that. A gearbox with proper rally ratios will completely transform the car. When we were starting out we spent a lot of money on engines with no massive leaps up the results sheets and it wasn't till we invested in a proper box that we saw the whole thing come together performance wise. From our experience a proper box is good for 2-3 sec a mile improvment in times. If your gearbox is standard or standardish I would put my money in there before trying for more power.
