Tommy Hayes 24-02-2006, 13:09 I`ve always said it about that clip, but I think that its a more exciting clip than most things we see today Art McCarrick 24-02-2006, 13:23 Some of McNulty's incar from Galway last nyt was well scary, he was on the limit, no wonder he put it off! Bob2 26-02-2006, 10:05 In the late-80's, the BBC Grandstand held a rally competition at the end of the season. Ford, lancia et al would provide a car and the likes of Lovell, Fiorio and Arrikkala would drive. Each 'episode' was a single stage using a single car for all drivers. One such episode was using RS Cosworths on the Isle of Man. The stage was pretty straightforward, with a downhill section into one of them cattlegrids and up a hill on the other side. There wa suggestions that this driver or that was going to do it flat. In the end, only one driver had the cojones to do it - Mark Lovell. It was incredible. If memory serves, he lost one - if not both - wing mirrors in the process. it took guys like him who'd driven 800BHP Gp. B cars... RIP Mark & Roger. rossgamble1987 26-02-2006, 10:07 Cool would ove to see that footage if there were such things as incar back then ! There were cameras everywhere, including in-car, because it was a made-for-tv thingy. Steve Rider of the BBC is a huge rally fan and it was all his doing. pinto200 26-02-2006, 10:49 nope, ur wrong. the original vatenan touch is purely the 1980 british rally championship in rothmans MK2's. JJ 26-02-2006, 11:25 hold on a pineapple minute, we're all talking pineapple! The clip is from in car manx!! Not the vatanen touch |
