mgmetro6r4 03-12-2008, 19:25 I’m not using the 450d but it is a grand wee camera.
Lenses you can’t go too far wrong with sigma nearly on par with canon quality now and are very cheap compared to them.
Get some fast memory cards there really important for continuous shooting!

enniskillen comms 10-12-2008, 19:12 I would have to agree with the Eos 400d, a great camera.
I was wondering if anyone could throw some light on a problem I have with my 400d. I have been using it with a speedlight flash but I went to use it the other day without the flash and the built in flash appears to be stuck down. Even pressing the "flash up" button on the side of the body makes no difference. Tried ringing Canon for advice and got a girl who told me "send it back and we will look at it". It's out of warranty and I dont want to be without it so I will just keep using the speedlite but if anyone had any ideas how to release the built in flash I would be grateful.

Hi Robert don't know much about the 400D but if you go here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9) and ask the question you might get help.

Stefan Lassus 10-12-2008, 20:08 as for Memory cards shop on ebay to get SD Extreme "Class 6" cards
Class 6 is the important part of that, as that is the speed of the card!
Germany seems to be about the cheapest place to get these now, and get a branded card... not one thats blue and has SD and **** all else on it!
Stefan Lassus 10-12-2008, 20:10 Jim9449
If you have a Speedlight, why on earth would you wanna use the ****** inbuilt flash?
The inbuilt flash is only for use if you just dont have a proper flash.... be glad the camera flash is stuck down, if not add glue!
Stefan Lassus 10-12-2008, 20:26 any body any more suggestions on lenses would something like this do
Canon EF 70-300mm IMAGE STABILIZER (IS) USM Zoom Lens
this is by far the best Camera / Lens site online!
No ******** about buying expensive cräp you dont need!
just down to earth sensible stuff about cameras and lenses!

There is a small micro switch on the hot shoe of the camera, when you put an external flash on, it can sometimes get stuck down, so your camera would think that an external flash is connected but powered off. Have a look at the hot shoe and find the switch, its under the metal strips, you might be able to free it out.
I would recommend this lens over the 70-300 IS
http://www.canon.ie/For_Home/Product_Finder/Cameras/EF_Lenses/Zoom_Lenses/EF-S_55-250mm_f_4-5_6_IS/index.asp
Heard that its very good, and as is the 2008 best entry level lens.
About IS, its only good for static shots, so wouldn't be good for motorsport, in fact it should be turned off, well for this level of lens anyway.
Other more expensive IS lenses like the canon 70-200 F2.8 L allow IS to only work in the vertical direction(or in both(switch on the side)) and so can be used for panning, but on most other non L lenses IS is to be turned off when shooting anything thats moving.
So where did all you regular photo posters actually buy your cameras/lenses?
Might be buying in 09 and wouldnt mind a few names to work off

Try 'Calumet' in Belfast and ask for Jenny or try Park Cameras in London. They have always been competitive for me. Another person to try would be our own Seamus Counihan.

Stick to e-bay Martin. You will save a small fortune. Canon are a great camera aswell, can't fault them in anyway.

Nikon or Canon its just a matter of choice really, they are both as good!
yes I got my Camera and Lenses on Ebay and saved about 45%
Cant remember the name of the shop off hand, but it was in the UK.
The lens was bought from a German shop on Ebay!
Remember if you buy outside of EU, there will be VAT to pay!
smaller items under 40 Euro always seem to come through without customs taking them!

Forde-fotos 13-12-2008, 22:59 I myself am consifering selling my 400D and upgrading to a 40D. What would be the best shop on e-bay for value ?
Stefan Lassus 14-12-2008, 00:06 I myself am consifering selling my 400D and upgrading to a 40D. What would be the best shop on e-bay for value ?
well its just a matter of using "Canon 40D" as search word, and changing the search criteria to "world wide" and keep watching prices for a while.... also be sure to see that wherever you buy has a great rating! and besure you read all their small print, and postage cost etc...
I use online Web translators for german and french sites :)

keep an eye on the usual ones like
onestop-digital.com, warehouseexpress etc but the prices on them website have gone way up due to the **** £ so they will not be the best deal around but they will price match. Ebay's good but be careful.
Canon were moving a lot of refurbished 400d's and 40d's recently, keep your eyes peeled for them too!
as for lenses, the money you want to spend governs what quality of a lens you get! :)
